What is the purpose of LifeBuilders?
LifeBuilders is a programme for Young Men in our community. Its purpose is to give them a good start in life through greater understanding and developing of skills which will allow them to become good men as fathers, husband’s, sons and also good role models themselves in our ever changing society.
LifeBuilders is an initiative of the local Men’s Ministries Department which is wholly responsible for its operations. This initiative seeks to develop programmes and a focus for enriching the life of young men spiritually, emotionally and socially.
Just look at some of these statistics below to understand why we need to embrace our young men and pass on our experiences as men as well as letting them find their way with a little help.
- By the age of 16 the majority of men have left the church.
- Most church workers are women and not men.
- Men in the UK commit the most violent crimes.
- Too many young men claim not to personally know any positive male role models in their families or church let alone the community.
LifeBuilders must be able to tackle issues concerning our young men of today head on. We certainly, just by way of communicating with our boys, know that they want answers and not just any old excuses!
LifeBuilders engages Parents
Parents have an important role to play in their son’s education.
LifeBuilders works closely with parents to ensure that they are fully engaged in supporting their son’s educational progress. Statistics clearly indicate that children whose parents actively engage in their education have higher academic success than children whose parents give little or no support. We provide five main types of support to parents.
LifeBuilders teaches life skills that turn our boys into brilliant and upstanding men.
- Electrical skills
- Personal hygiene
- Catering in the home
- You and the work place
- Father & Sons
LifeBuilders builds strong football teams for Lee
Our LifeBuilders members took a large step forward by entering a community football event in July which was hosted at the former Dulwich Hamlets Football ground. Whilst pre tournament training was tough as the football coaches Lucien Spencer and Steve Lawrence pulled no punches! We ensured that the guys knew that we meant business. Mental conditioning and sheer physical activity helped prepare guys for the task ahead.
LifeBuilders has an annual award for its best achievers in our various programmes. Every year we give out an award called the” Young Man of the Year award” here we look for the most outstanding young man that has made a difference within our Church or our community. Past winners include
- S Stanford - 2000
- A Fuller - 2001
- S Reid - 2002
- K Young - 2003
- J Archer – 2004
- D Hercules -2005
- J Lawrence - 2006
The event itself was an awesome experience for the boys and one I’m sure that they won’t forget!
